You read that right! Our Preschoolers made homemade Pop Tarts...and they were just as warm and gooey as you'd imagine!

First things first, we need our yummy ingredients...

  • 1 box Pillsbury™ refrigerated pie crust, softened as directed on box

  • 1 small jar strawberry preserves

Icing:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 2-3 teaspoons milk

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

“A recipe is a story that ends with a good meal.”

Before our little ones got into these ingredients, our teacher unrolled the pie crust and cut into rectangles. We had a few smart cookies shouting at Miss Erica, "those look like squares, not rectangles!" Caught red handed.

The children were then instructed to scoop up a spoonful of jam and place it nicely in the middle of the rectangle. Then they placed a matching rectangle and sealed the sides by pressing down their forks!

And then they magically were placed in the oven (aka Miss Erica) handled all of the hot baking sheets. (These delicious Pop Tarts bake at 425 degrees for 7-8 minutes)... and for 7-8 minutes there were several of our friends saying "are the Pop Tarts ready yet" or "I think I heard the oven go off".

We all could HARDLY wait until these cooled off, but while we waited...it was time to make the icing! Our friends took turns pouring the ingredients into the bowl and mixing.

Once cooled, our friends took the back of their spoons and spread on the icing. Then they took about 700 sprinkles and made beautiful and super yummy Pop Tarts!
